This pastoral wine has its roots in the Russian Orthodox Church, and was used as sacramental wine. In the previous century the sacramental wine was shipped from the Cahors wine region in France and was sweetened with honey. During the Napoleonic wars, French wine could not be imported, so a similar style of sweet red wine was developed locally. and is still used by many orthodox churches today.

Dessert red wine

This one of kind, fortified dessert red wine from Ciumai winery is made from Cabernet-Sauvignon grapes, maturated in oak barrels. It is noble and dark-ruby in colour with a honey-moroccan bouquet revealing notes of black currant, chocolate and prunes. The rich and velvety texture ends with a slightly tart finish.
